Encouraging, which complements the structured and very challenging
Training program he established for me. This combination has helped to
Push me to perform at levels I didn't think were possible."
"I'm 50 years old and thought my long distance running days
were over.
Then in January 2006 I started training with Keith twice a week. I ran
This year's Boston Marathon in 3:09, far exceeding my expectations and
Performance last year. I felt fantastic at the end of the race, had a
Rapid recovery, and had absolutely no injuries during my training. I
Just finished a sprint triathlon and came in 5th in my age group. And
I'm competing in a 1.5 mile swim next month. Keith's training has
enabled me to compete in these challenging events and get in the best
shape ever. If you truly want to achieve
breakthrough performance, stay healthy and feel great, you need to
train
with Keith. He is outstanding."

My name is Steve Elman, and
I’ve been working with Keith Colby and Chris Larson of Colby
Conditioning since early in 2008.
A year ago, if you’d told me I’d be doing a testimonial for a personal
training company, I’d have laughed. I don’t exactly think of myself as
a “gym person,” whatever that is. I’ve had gym memberships in the past,
but frankly, they just didn’t do it for me. The experience I’ve had
with Keith and Chris has been pretty special, and I ‘m happy to tell
you about it in the hope that you can benefit from it as well.
I spent thirty years in radio, and I now work as a writer. In March
2008, my first book was published. Because my work has been so
sedentary, I put on quite a few pounds over the years. By the end of
2007, I was up to 230, and I knew that wasn’t good. I also had a fall –
I just keeled over for no good reason on the sidewalk, and that shook
me up.
I went in for a checkup with my doctor, and he let me know that I’d
better do something about my weight. I knew that my blood pressure was
borderline, but he also told me I was in danger of developing diabetes
if I didn’t get my weight down.
He recommended working with a nutritionist and having an evaluation
from Colby Conditioning. After a few tests, Keith determined that the
muscles controlling my balance were weaker than they should be. He said
he’d like to set up a program for me to help strengthen those muscles.
In addition, I asked him to help me lose weight and build my overall
muscle tone.
Over six months, working with Colby Conditioning and my nutritionist, I
dropped thirty pounds. I really feel great about that - but for me, the
weight loss has been a secondary benefit of my training program.
The most important thing is that the exercises developed for me made me
feel more stable – stronger and more at ease in walking and moving. I
know that my weight loss has depended on my own discipline and
commitment. But the strengthening of specific muscle groups requires
expertise – and that’s why I really value the work I’ve done with Keith
and Chris.
Let me give you a few specific reasons why I think Colby Conditioning
has worked for me. First, I never feel that I’m being asked to do more
than I can accomplish. Keith and Chris want me to leave the gym
stronger, but they want to make sure that I get there without any
muscle strain, joint problems, or compromise of my physical wellbeing.
Second, Keith is constantly changing up my routine, using new
techniques and exercises that he learns from his research and from his
peers in the business. I can honestly say that I’ve never had a boring
workout – I’ve been challenged, for sure, but never bored.
Third, I feel that Keith and Chris watch my workouts more closely than
I watch them myself. They see what I’m having trouble with and they
change and adjust exercises to make sure I make progress without doing
damage to my joints and my back.
Fourth, I’m not intimidated by the other clients at Colby Conditioning.
They seem to be normal people with the same goals I have – to improve
our health and feel better about our bodies. I like knowing that the
other folks working out aren’t there to show off their physiques, but
to do something good for themselves.
Lastly, I feel that Keith and Chris care. That
might not be the first thing you think of when you’re considering a
training program, but let me tell you, personal consideration is a
great motivator. Chris always makes sure to program music on the sound
system that puts me in the right frame of mind. Keith asks me at least
once a week how I feel about my progress. I feel valued,
and that makes me want to achieve the goals they set – and even to go
beyond them.
I recommend this experience, and I’m grateful for the help I’ve
received from Keith Colby and Chris Larson.
Of course, you shouldn’t have any illusions – this isn’t easy work, and
your success in any exercise program depends on your own willingness to
give it a good effort. But these guys know what they’re doing – and
that’s been a tremendous help to me.
I’ll turn 60 in 2009. I know how important it is to maintain my health
as I age – and I’m glad I’ve found Colby Conditioning to give me the
means and the inspiration to do it.

"I
want to thank you for all you’ve done over the past year. My strength
and flexibility have returned to the level they once were, while we are
still in the early phase of successful training sessions. It’s very
clear that staying with your approach will soon put me in the best
shape of my life, even at age 46."
"As an athlete throughout college, I’ve sought to maintain the level of fitness that I’d attained through training camps during baseball and hockey seasons. This became a greater challenge after starting my own company. It is quite difficult to find a consistent and productive method to training while meeting the needs of clients, employees, the daily demands of a business, as well as squeezing in time to have a personal life."
"Workouts with you have been efficient, challenging and unique, while the times you offer throughout the week, with options for private and semi-private sessions, have allowed me to comfortably address the needs of my professional life and fulfill the necessary number of sessions to meet our conditioning goals."
"Your approach to fitness and strength is completely different than the programs I’d been raised on during my athletic career. At first I was not sure exactly how I would benefit. As I started to understand your approach, my mind and body began to adapt to this unique method. Everything fell into place. On a recent trip to Italy, I hiked much of the Mediterranean coast. It was quite a long distance, while more than half of the terrain was quite challenging. I breezed through this journey with very little effort. My legs, back and mind had not been this strong and confident in quite some time."
"I don’t trust just anyone with my body when it comes to my health. I had back surgery a few years ago and worked with one or two physical therapists and trainers prior to meeting you. Your present knowledge coupled your hunger for learning and staying up on the latest techniques, has benefited me tremendously. Your experience with injured athletes is something that I had sought out in a trainer. The results that I’ve seen of your work with professional athletes, triathletes, marathoners and people like myself who want to remain athletically active and competitive, has convinced me of the true effectiveness of your programs."
"You have a unique and confident approach, which you present to clients with a high level of enthusiasm and consistency. Your programs are complete, with suggestions for off day workouts and post workout recovery. You tailor sessions to each individual. Your newsletters on diet and training philosophy are effective and vital. Every moment is used efficiently. As long as a client is committed to the program, the results can be tremendous."
"For those of us coming off of major injuries, your approach has given us back the active lives we were at risk of losing without taking action. Thank you for all that you’ve done. I’m completely committed to your philosophy and highly recommend that others in my situation consider working with you."
"Yours truly,"
Richard W Schmid

Hello,
My name is Joe Easley, I am 58 years of age. I was referred to Colby
Conditioning by a physical therapist who was working with me to heal a
damaged shoulder muscle. The shoulder muscle was damaged while
exercising on my own.
Like many of us, I have been aware for years of my need to lose weight
and become more physically fit. Also like many of us, I am a fantastic
procrastinator and when I would finally motivate myself to exercise I
managed to do too much too fast resulting in muscle damage, causing
unbearable soreness, and occasionally intense therapy. I also never
seemed to combine exercise with a proper nutritional program.
When I first interviewed with Keith Colby I was asked what I expected
to accomplish by employing a personal trainer. My response was
threefold. I wanted to lose weight, gain core strength, and increase
flexibility. This question and response was a short opening to a very
thorough verbal and physical assessment of my life and body. I got the
distinct impression that if I did not indicate my personal commitment
and convince Keith of the same I would have been advised Colby Fitness
could not help me and shown the door. The fact I am sitting here
conducting this testimonial answers that.
Keith designed a 12 week physical and motivational program that started
me off slowly and introduced me to more challenging workouts gradually
and, most amazing to me, without injury or even without pain. I was
never rushed through my workouts and my trainer Chris Larson watched
over me like a mother hen. Professionally walking me through the
warm-ups and exercises while patiently answering my questions and
explaining the muscle groups being worked on.
Colby Fitness showed there flexibility and willingness to accommodate
when my personal travel and vacation schedule extended my 12 week
program out to 16 weeks. During that 16 weeks I shed 24 lbs. overall
while reducing my waist size by 2 inches and increasing my arms by 1/2
inch, my chest by 1 inch, and my body fat ratio dropped from 22% to
13%. Additionally my golf handicap, which was the reason for my desire
to increase core strength and overall flexibility, has dropped from a
weak 12 to a solid 8.
I plan to continue my relationship with Keith, Chris, and Colby Fitness
going forward. I recommend you consider it as well!
"About a year ago, my 45 year old son said to me, “Dad, stand up
straight; pull your shoulders back. You look like an old man!” A day or
two later, as I walked past a large store window, I glanced over and
saw my reflection and yes, there I was, stooped over, definitely like
an old man.
Since my twenties, I’ve been telling myself, “You need to get in
shape.” As each new decade came and went, it was always, “Oh, I must
get in shape before I’m 30.” “Oh, I must get in shape before I’m 40.”
And so it continued. Well, the decades continued to pass and when my
son made his startling comment, I was 70 years old, stooped over, all
kinds of aches and pains, struggling to tie my shoe laces. It was then
I decided “It’s time!”
I found Colby Conditioning, signed on and have been working regularly
with Keith and Chris for almost a year now. The program they have set
up for me has the right combination of stretching, exercises to improve
balance and strength building. The program continues to change as my
abilities improve, so it does not become monotonous. Their approach is
that of firm, but gentle pushing with enthusiastic encouragement. They
give me advice on nutrition (I give them advice on life.) They also
make it fun. I’m not going to exaggerate and say I feel like a 30 year
old... I still have an ache or a pain now and again, but you know what?
I also get that wonderful little ache when I realize I’ve woken up a
muscle that hasn’t been used for many years. Now, when I walk past a
store window, or look in a mirror, I don’t see that stooped over old
man any more, I see a standing tall senior citizen who is continuing
the journey I wish I had started decades ago, getting myself in shape.
Keith’s web site has a section addressing ‘Baby Boomers’. Well, I was
born a few years too early to be in that category, but to the senior
citizens out there, I want to say “It’s never too late. Do it!”"

"Coach
Keith is a consummate professional always striving to create the
perfect workout. Keith tailors my workouts with the specific goals I
have and takes into consideration some injuries that have plagued me
over the years. The workouts are geared to strengthen the weak areas
that have contributed to the injuries. After working out on my own for
almost 30 years and trying almost every workout imaginable, I have
never achieved the same results as with Keith in such short period of
time. Keith’s formula of exercise and diet has worked for me - I feel
stronger, my flexibility has improved and I look good. I consider Keith
my overall health coach."

"I
know we've only been training together for a week but I had to write
and tell you that I've already lost 6 pounds! Following the
fat loss nutrition plan my cravings are now
leaning towards broccoli rather than bread and cheese. My ferocious
appetite has subsided in the past few days and already see huge change
in my waistline. Now weight is dropping off of me and I feel great. My
last work out was awesome! With the help of my protein shake I had
tons of energy to push myself hard through all phases of the workout.
Can't wait to see what I look like in 11 weeks. Thanks Coach."

"Keith is
the ideal fitness/strength coach for busy professionals who are
prepared to work hard. ...Intelligent expenditure of effort, not hours
on the treadmill, is what Keith is all about... Since we have been with
Keith, we have been getting better results while spending less time in
the gym."
Charles & Alicia Rounds
"I started working with Keith after a year of physical therapy due to a snowboarding injury and several years of inactivity. Through a systematic evaluation of my health, injury and discussion of my goals Keith designed and exercise program to not only help me recover from my injury but to also prepare me to achieve my goals which included returning to snowboarding, wrestling, climbing and martial arts. Less than a year later I have returned to the activities that I love and am performing better than I have in years. Keith’s programs and coaching have allowed me to feel better on a day to day basis while improving my posture, flexibility, endurance and increasing my overall strength."
"Keith not only helped me move past my injury and get in shape
but also helped me redefine my diet, my approach to exercise and my
overall approach to personal health. Keith helped me realize that your
health should always come first and should be the most single important
goal of every day (a hard learned lesson after years of over work,
inactivity and constant stress that led to injury and chronic pain). I
continue to work with Keith (and will do so into the future) to improve
my body, mind and health."

"...If one is to be a master at their craft, they must possess
a drive, a boundless passion and the sheer determination to be the
best. Keith is such a person. Whoever trains with Keith can be assured
of training with someone who is restless in their pursuit of
excellence. His passion is your gain..."

"I signed up to train with Keith Colby three years ago when I was 71 years old. I wanted someone who could work with older people with cardiac problems, concentrating on balance and strength as opposed to cardio. Keith designed a program especially for me that stressed core strength and balance. The results have been extraordinary. I feel my posture, balance and certainly my strength have improved significantly."
"I particularly appreciate Keith’s style of challenge and
encouragement. He has been able to get me beyond my personal goals with
this style and his warmth and friendliness have made each session a
pleasure. He deserves all the accolades he gets as a very knowledgeable
trainer."

"I have been working with you for a few years now and I am
feeling much Stronger and healthier. I really like the methods you use
for training. Building my core strength and doing interval exercise has
made me more fit Than in the past when I was primarily doing long-slow
distance running or swimming. It has been a pleasure to work with you.
Your attention to detail has kept me injury free while significantly
enhancing my strength and General fitness. My training sessions are
excellent because you are Patient and explain things well. I work hard
from the beginning to the end Of the session and I feel that I have
worked to capacity, although I don't Feel overly exhausted. I like your
advice on nutrition; it makes a lot of sense. Thanks!"
